Shoulder-to-Shoulder Catch Up

There's been a bit of a delay in getting these scores out to people.  Sorry for the wait.  Since the Sarisbury match, City has had a few further matches and we've now finished our the 2016-17 shoulder-to-shoulder season (which will also be our last season at the Hambrook St range).  Our performance was a bit of a mixed bag of results if we're honest but it's not without its highlights.  Here's how we did.

It's fair to say that we were outmatched on this one.  We weren't quite able to get a full team together but congratulation to Havant for a very respectable winning score.  A small note of congratulations should also go to Tom Sommerville for his first counted-in score.

So by this point, we'd shot 10 matches and lost 4.  I wish I could say we turned it around after this, but there was one more defeat to come...

This time we really were reduced in numbers and could only muster a team of 6.  It was a close match... but didn't go our way.

So where our defeat against Sarisbury meant we had to say goodbye to any hopes we had for winning the championship this year, these defeats against Havant and Railway meant we had to say goodbye to achieving runner-up, as we had last year.

So we got back on the winning track but congratulations need to go to A. Smith of West Meon for his ton.

Wickham had started very strong this season but, like City, had encountered a slump mid-season.  This was a home match for City, so we had the advantage and thankfully, we pressed it.

A very strong showing from many of the team.  No tonnes, but those 99s are nothing to be sniffed at.  Our final match was against HMS Excellent and while our record against them is good, City had lost its last two away matches.

So Portsmouth City finished the season on a high note!  Congratulations to G, Scruton and J. Rowe on their tonnes, especially to Jonny, for whom this was his first Portsmouth & District shoulder-to-shoulder ton!

The West Meon Away Match

This evening the City team made its way up to West Meon!  After last week's Arthur Lee home match, this time they had the home advantage.  Unfortunately, neither team was up to full strength so it was 5 against 7.  Here were the scores:

This equals City's score against West Meon away last year and while 487 is not a bad team score (and a win is a win) it does edge our team average down a little to 488.3.  Come on City, let's power through this and keep the scores in the 490s!

This evening, it was Ian Cooper who showed us all how it should be done!  Well done for the ton!

Arthur Lee Cup Round 1 - City vs West Meon

So tonight was the first round of this season's Arthur Lee Cup - again we were up against West Meon, except this time it was on home territory.  The Arthur Lee matches, unlike regular Portsmouth & District matches, are teams of six shooting two cards each.

So, we are through to the next round!  Congratulations to Sarah Hart for her excellent double ton!  A ton is special, but a double ton is a whole other level of awesome.  Well done, Sarah!  Well done to the rest of the team as well for a solid performance all round.

We're up against West Meon again next week for the Portsmouth & District league, but next Tuesday it's an away match.  Should be fun!

PCRC is back on form! (2016 Matches, pt 2)

Our away match against Chichester saw another solid yet unremarkable result from the Portsmouth City team (unfortunately pushing our average down every so slightly).

City's First Match of 2016!

Happy New Year!

Been a bit too busy recently to update this blog but hopefully that's made up for with a few different posts with news.  First of all, City got started with its first match for this season's Arthur Lee Cup - round 2 against West Meon Rifle Club.  If you are wondering how we did in round 1, we got a bye and automatic progression to the second round without needing shoot (bit of a pity, we always like reasons to shoot).

So how did we do?

This evening saw the City team trek up to deepest, darkest West Meon!  It was our 4th match of the season and our 1st away match.  Thankfully, after a shaky start, City appears to have found its form.

City equals its score from our last match against Chichester and our team average for the season now rests at 484.5.  Not bad but come on City, we can do better - there hasn't even been a ton yet!

So despite not having a full-strength team, we've managed to chalk up another win and look forward to meeting Portsmouth Railway next week!

Tuesday night was our last match of the Portsmouth & District shoulder-to-shoulder season, against West Meon.  We've had a great season and, as a team, we should be (and are) very proud of our stats.  Thankfully, last night ended with another win.

The competition for the best individual average was very close this year with 4 shooters all being within a few scoring points of each other:

4th: Gordon Scruton (97.13)

Last Match of the Year

Last night the team shot its last match of the year, at home against West Meon.  The club has had a relatively successful season of shooting so far but a below-par performance by many of the team meant that PCRC equalled its lowest team score of the season and had to settle for a draw against West Meon.

Special congratulations to Adam Nevatte for scoring his second possible of the season and going into the Christmas break with an impressive shoulder-to-shoulder average of 98.5!  We are now at the mid-point of the 2014-15 season with 10 points (4 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss).

While the Portsmouth & District shoulder-to-shoulder season is now done until the new year, we have plenty more postal competitions to get on with... plus, of course, the Rifle Club Christmas Competition, next Thursday 11th December.  See you there!
